Since we had a tie in item #1, I would like to TEST this concept for one season only. It is not as complicated as it sounds. We can evaluate which system works best, or modify it. This is open to discussion, but as we have a tie, ultimately, I want to do what is in the best interests of the league.
ALSO, it has been suggested that we adopt a rule where each team can have up to 2 players' ages reduced by two years per season. No player may be made younger more than once. I LIKE this idea, but I want to expand it a bit. Up until this point (since we moved to OOTP6 and my unretire mod stopped working) I have, at timely points, made players 5 years younger to extend careers. As the owners had in the original rules a right to unretire a player during his "real" career, I felt this was the best I could do to slow the aging process. In fact, I hhave slowed the aging process as much as I can with the internal engines, and we are seeing more players approach 40 years of age. For that reason, I am not sure that a flat two years is sufficient. So I was thinking...
...about a point system for participation. From those points earned, a team can "spend" points in the off-season to do things like subtract years from a player's age, add seats to a stadium, increase fan interest points, increase loyalty and/or market size (we'll call that a marketing campaign), renegotiate TV deals, increase a player's attributes, and finally move their club.
Points would be earned by sending in roster moves, per sim. There are 27 sims per season, so a team could earn 1 point per roster submission.
Speciffically, to the point of reducing age (or the "Fountain of Youth" rule)- a team would need X amount of points and could reduce a total number of years (say 5) from up to three players. The only caps on these reductions would be that they could be done only once per player, and that they could not exceed the player's natural career by more than 2 years. If a player has already exceeded his natural career, such as Marty Bystrom, he could still get a 2 year reduction.
Point values would be detrmined by a selected group of owners, and facilitated by the commish (without a vote)...but something like the following chart might be an example:
Add 1,000 seats --- 5 points
Increase Fan Interest by 2 points --- 5 points
Subtract 5 years age from up to 3 players --- 15 points
Increase market size by one level --- 10 points
Increase Fan Loyalty by one level --- 10 points
Increase a player in one attribute category by 3 points --- 15 points
Move to a new city --- 100 points
(as you can see, I envision points carrying over from one season to the next.) Please let me know what you think of this ASAP. I will also be posting it on the message board.
